Youth Participation in Gloucestershire

Youth Participation is about getting your voice heard, being listened to and having an impact or changing things. In Gloucestershire there are lots of ways that you could get your views heard and change things.

Article 12 of the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child states

‘any child or young person who is capable of forming his or her own views has the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child’ (paraphrased)

There are lots of organisations and services that you can get involved with:

  • Youth Support Service
  • Young Carers
  • Children in Care Council and consultation groups
  • local youth forums
  • NHS
  • the Children & Young People's Service (formerly known as CAMHS)
  • Voluntary Sector projects and services
  • Libraries and lots more

There are lots of benefits to getting involved, for you, for other young people and for organisations and communities.

Here's a few ideas about ways you could get involved

  • Running or taking part in campaigns or consultations about services that you use
  • Contacting or meeting your local councillor or MP
  • Being involved in local or district youth forums / councils or in your School Council
  • You can be involved and express your view in decisions that affect you or your life
  • Take part in Gloucestershire Takeover Day in November 2012, taking over jobs and services for the day
