Costs of Further Education
Am I eligible for a free course?
You won't have to pay for your tuition if you answer 'Yes' to the following:
- Am I aged 16-18 years old?
- Is the school or college publically-funded? E.g. academies, city technology colleges and further education colleges.
- Is the course below higher education level?
The government is currently reviewing the cost of courses. If you are under 19 years old it probably won't affect you, but make sure you have asked the school or college for information rather than automatically thinking the course will be free.
There are other circumstances that may affect whether or not you are entitled to study for free. An example could include if you have come from a non-European Union country solely for the purpose of studying.
Other costs to think about
- Transport to the school or college or to the employer if your course includes work experience
- Any special trips that may be involved as part of your course
- Particular equipment or clothing that may be required
- Administration and registration costs
